Jackie Shroff Seeks Protection of Personality Rights: Files Suit in Delhi High Court

Renowned Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff has taken legal action to safeguard his personality and publicity rights, filing a suit before the Delhi High Court. The suit targets various entities accused of unauthorized use of Shroff’s name, photographs, voice, and the iconic moniker “Bhidu” without his explicit consent.

During today’s hearing before Justice Sanjeev Narula, the court issued summons to the defendant entities named in the suit. The matter is scheduled for further consideration tomorrow, with the possibility of the court issuing interim orders.

In the lawsuit, Shroff argues that his name, images, voice, and distinctive personality traits are being exploited by the defendant entities for commercial gains without his authorization. Representing Shroff, Advocate Pravin Anand emphasized the importance of protecting the actor’s personality and publicity rights, citing precedent-setting judgments that upheld similar rights for other prominent actors like Anil Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan.

As the legal battle unfolds, Shroff’s pursuit of justice underscores the significance of safeguarding the rights and integrity of public figures in the entertainment industry.
